1.3 Writing - Writing Intentions - Statement of Intent

1.3 Writing - Writing Intentions - Statement of Intent

$5.00Price

For the new NCEA Achievement Standard, 1.3 Writing, students must be very deliberate with their writing process.  This document is a statement of intent that requires students to:

  1. Brainstorm possibilities for their chosen prompt (an example is provided),
  2. Note the idea they're wanting to show;
  3. Describe their purpose;
  4. Name their key audience;
  5. Select the point of view they're writing from;
  6. Name the genre they'll write in;
  7. Choose the language features they're likely to use (they can also tweak this as they work or retrospectively);
  8. Choose the structural features they're likely to use (again, this can be tweaked at the time of writing or later).

NOTE:  This editable collection of stylistic features (language and structure) is a handy reference of categorised devices that will help your students find devices appropriate for their text.

Just in case you want everything in the same document, there is also room for students to plan and write on this document.  (If they need clear scaffolding, try the formatting templates resource.)

Finally, a student checklist included, emphasising the need to develop ideas, check for errors etc, but also pushing students with the line, "If I was asked to, I could point these out and explain why I used them - OMG, Boom" with regard to both language and structural features.

⛔ PLEASE NOTE:  This resource appears in Book 2.  If you have already purchased Book 2, do not purchase this! ⛔

This resource includes:

⭐ One document of 9 pages as described above, completely editable, so you can tweak it to better suit your needs if you like.

⭐ One document of 9 pages as described above, FLAT-PACKED so that students can edit only the parts they should.  They cannot destroy the document.  You may prefer to share this one with them.

You and your students will enjoy:
