Formal Writing - Literally Seriously
Here's a complete formal writing task booklet that guides students through a formal way to vent - to have their say! (Some of you may remember this from the old 1.5 Formal Writing days, but it's been reformatted and beautified as a generic task for students from - approx - year 9-12!)
This resource includes:
⭐ An editable workbook.
You and your students will enjoy:
❤️ Checkpoints to help with time management.
❤️ An example for students to annotate.
❤️ Activities to help generated ideas and develop writing.
❤️ Information about writing techniques and tools.
❤️ Planning pages, including a statement of intent.
❤️ Room to write/type.
❤️ A checklist to help students ensure they've done everything they can to produce a masterpiece!
Formats:
🖥️ Microsoft PowerPoint, resized to an A4 page. This means your resource:
- Is completely editable.
- Will easily upload to your Google Drive if you prefer the Googley suite.
- Is printable 📃
🖥️ A flat-packed version - this means your students can edit digitally ONLY the parts they should. The rest is locked down to prevent them damaging it.

Sharing/Copying this Resource
Feel free to purchase just one for your department - no need for a copy for each teacher. However:
- Please do NOT share with the school down the road.
- Please do NOT take it with you to a new school.
- Feel free to suggest the website to others - that'd be great!
That's pretty fair I think! Let's help each other out. :)
