Formal Writing Whiteboard Cues for Structure
These Lego-inspired whiteboard cues give students a better understanding of the basic structure of formal writing such as literary or expository essays. They compliment our Formal Writing for Strugglers resource and help teachers who don't have Lego available use the strategy discussed in our Teaching the Basics of Formal Writing Structure video on YouTube. Print, laminate and 'stick' them to your whiteboard with sticky-tack or magnetic tape.
Perfect for Years 7 and 8, or for remedial help in years 9 and 10 ... or 11...12...13... 😭
This resource includes:
⭐ 13 pages of printable whiteboard cues and instructions
You and your students will enjoy:
❤️ Lego-inpired bricks to help with whole text and/or paragraph structure. Each of the three 'point' bricks appear in a different colour.
❤️ Several blank/white bricks so that you can write what you like on them.
❤️ Two cue styles to help with overall structure - one of a stick figure (put the head, body and feet together), and one of a hamburder (put the top of the bun, filling and bottom of the bun together.
❤️ 'Enter' buttons and 'zigzag' cues to emphasise the need to miss a whole line between each paragraph.
❤️ Planning essays together on the board, mixing your bricks up a bit, using the blank bricks to extend students into wider world thinking etc... Use your imagination - enjoy!

Sharing/Copying this Resource
Feel free to purchase just one for your department - no need for a copy for each teacher. However:
- Please do NOT share with the school down the road.
- Please do NOT take it with you to a new school.
- Feel free to suggest the website to others - that'd be great!
That's pretty fair I think! Let's help each other out. :)
