Film Study - Basic Shot/Scene Analysis Templates and Examples

$5.00Price
Excluding GST

Study a film as literature with these templates to help students analyse the use of a technique in a shot or scene from your class movie.

Note well:  This resource is also available in our discounted bundle here!

Templates 1 and 2:

Use the examples to guide students through completing one of two blank template options to extend their thinking around:

  • How another technique works with the one they're focusing on.
  • The effects of the technique as it's used in the shot/scene.
  • Wider world suggestions.
  • Director's purpose.

Finally, students use the notes from their template to write a well-developed paragraph.

Template 3:

  • Students/you place a shot (which may also represent a short scene) in the middle of a template. Students then complete as many of the surrounding boxes as they can to annotate the shot/scene.  Each box is headed with a different film technique - eg: Shot sizes, camera angles, colour, sound, editing...
  • Finally, students use the notes from their template to write a well-developed paragraph.

This resource includes:

⭐ One student booklet - although YOU can pick which template you want students to use.

⭐ A short teacher guide.

Feel free to purchase just one for your department - no need for a copy for each teacher.  However:

    • Please do NOT share with the school down the road.
    • Please do NOT take it with you to a new school.
    • Feel free to suggest the website to others - that'd be great!

That's pretty fair I think!  Let's help each other out.  :)

    A handy resource

You know that feeling when you see another resource that could lessen the burden of wheel creation for the busy members of your department? Having another way of approaching a subject that can be multi level and can support staff who may not have taught either the subject or the year level is fantastic. We don't necessarily use the booklet fully but as a reference, taking bits and pieces and inspiring those 'I could do this' moments in unit planning is perfect.

Yay, love that you're using the resource to dip into. We always say you can use bits and bobs from a resource, tweak things to make them suit better, use as reference for yourselves, use as is... that's why we keep things editable where possible. Thanks so much for your detailed review, Sonia. Sue :)
