Comprehensive revision practice of your class's poetry study will be easy and organised with this COMPLETELY EDITABLE workbook focusing on text features, structures, ideas and purpose. Questions, statements and activities have been strategically created to reflect the key aspects often called upon in assessments. ✍

This resource includes:

  • Find it. Learn it. – This section requires students to wade through their class notes to answer basic questions about each of the elements of this text such as the topic, subject, narrator, tone, structure, ideas and purpose. (Note: room has been left for students to add their answers to these pages, however if you want to save on printing, there is a print-saver option where all questions come on one page. Students can then make their notes on their own paper.)

  • Techniques – Students make notes about how key techniques (structural features, sound devices, figurative language and vocabulary) are used to illustrate aspects such as the poem’s topic/subject matter, the tone, the main idea.

  • Focus on Main Ideas – Students write a main idea in the centre of a graphic organiser, then think about how that idea is illustrated via the other elements of literature / techniques employed by the poet.

  • Deeper Thinking – Students are given statements about this text type (for example, "This text gives us an intimate understanding of an individual" and "This text would challenge many readers/listeners to reconsider their points of view"). They then make brief notes regarding why this statement is true or untrue for their poem. They can agree with both sides of the argument of course.

  • At a Glance – Three preformatted pages (students can choose what design they prefer) for students to make notes about their text in order to create a one-pager. This information ‘at a glance’ can be put on a wall at home or glued inside a book to help with study.

  • Cue Cards – Sometimes things just have to be rote-learned! These can be used as cue cards for students to flip through aspects relating to their text, or they can be used as flip cards for self-testing if students write a question or vocabulary on one side, then the answer on the other.

Items 1-4 are tailor-made for this text type, while items 5 and 6 are repeated in each resource of this revision series.
