Descriptive writing

DESCRIPTIVE WRITING - Object - Person - Place - Event - Years 9-11

$8.00Price

Students are guided through descriptive writing about an object, person, place or event with this resource.  It's differentiated throughout and suitable for years 9-11.  Students:

  1. Choose their subject.
  2. Work through a set of activities to tease out their ideas about it.
  3. Add figurative language.
  4. Add sound devices.
  5. Play around with sentence beginnings and a few structures.
  6. Work on more interesting vocabulary.
  7. Edit.
  8. Proofread.

Note:  Purpose and audience are deliberately not included because this resource focuses on writing skills without all that background 'noise'.  (You can always add these if you like.)

You have a choice of taking students through this process using:

  • The presentation slide show (on your big screen), with students working on their own digital docs.
  • The student booklet.  Share this with students to follow as they work through their writing process.  (I recommend printing rather than sharing digitally so they can sit it beside them while they work on their own digital document).

I recommend students write on a digital document to make editing easier.

This resource includes:

⭐ Student booklet

⭐ Teacher slideshow for your big screen.

You and your students will enjoy:

❤️ Differentiation - every step is differentiated.

❤️ The choice of writing about an object, person, place or event - with images provided to help with ideas.

❤️ Scaffolded steps in the writing process.

  • Sharing/Copying this Resource

Feel free to purchase just one for your department - no need for a copy for each teacher.  However:

    • Please do NOT share with the school down the road.
    • Please do NOT take it with you to a new school.
    • Feel free to suggest the website to others - that'd be great!

That's pretty fair I think!  Let's help each other out.  :)
