Mātauranga Māori concepts in English lessons

Concept Labels - Mātauranga Māori - for planning, creating, leading

This is a collection of labels/images of 20 tikanga Māori concepts as well as 3 for the states of Te Kore, Te Pō and Te Ao Mārama - exciting stuff for your English lessons!  Use these to create your own resources, shuffle around a table to think critically about Mātauranga Māori and generally be creative and have fun with.  (See my Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs - Mātauranga Māori mashup in the FREEBIES library which you can watch me explain here!)  Use in your classroom and in your faculty for inspiration and learning.

Each label includes the word, a brief explanation of what that concept encompasses and a graphic to further help illustrate its meaning.

This resource is suitable for all subject areas at all levels. If you have my Mātauranga Māori pack, then you already have these labels, so please don't purchase them again!

This resource includes:

⭐ A clear explanation, which I invite you to read here.

⭐ A one-pager with all the images (labels) on it so you can see them all at a glance.

⭐ 23 separate png images to copy and paste anywhere.

You and your students will enjoy:

❤️ Enhanced critical thinking opportunities. Eg: How has a loss of tūrangawaewae affected [character]? How is the mauri of this group manifested? What kaupapa exists in this setting and how does it affect this community?

❤️ The opportunity to learn more about and/or use concepts from the Māori world view.

❤️ The integration of your subject with Mātauranga Māori that's really exciting and non-threatening (because some are a little scared, right?!)

❤️ Having vocabulary that nails 'the vibe of the thing' - that concept you just never had a word for (now you do!)
