Literacy - Reading Shorties 1-5 - Short high school reading activities

This resource contains FIVE short texts and questions carefully designed around our NZ curriculum and CAA reading assessment for literacy.  These are sets 1-5 of our collection.  Question categories cover:
  • Language (features and vocabulary)
  • Structural Features
  • Grammar and/or punctuation
  • Meanings
  • Style
  • Writer and/or audience
 
Each of the five sets appear on one page, specifically created to avoid student overwhelm and give you and your students plenty of time to complete and mark one (at least!) in a single lesson.  (Also easy and affordable to print!)  
 
Distribute to students individually (recommended) either online or print form (IMO the latter is superior for learning) and, as they work, have them complete the 'Help Sheet' to record where they got stuck and what they need to ask you about.  This sheet has been designed specifically to enhance engagement, and help student learn from the activities rather than just 'doing them' (if you know what I mean)!
 
Oh!  And we've popped in a wee writing prompt at the end, just in case you want to grab the opportunity for a bit of practice there too!
 
This resource includes:

⭐ One document for teachers containing instructions/suggestions and the ANSWERS!

    ADHD friendly!

    These short activities are perfect for our smart students with concentration challenges! They can do one and then go for a walk around. safe and predictable format perfect for students with anxiety
