Senior Short Story - 2BRO2B by Kurt Vonnegut Jr
Kurt Vonnegut Jr.'s 2BR02B is set in a future where ageing and disease have been eliminated, but every new birth must be balanced by a death. When a father expecting triplets discovers that only one of his children can survive, he faces an impossible choice. This senior text study takes students through the background to the story, a range of literary elements, and more challenging activities involving interpretation and critical thinking.
Content note: 2BR02B explores mature themes, including suicide, assisted death, state-sanctioned killing, and the death of infants. Teachers should consider the suitability of the text for their students.
