Literary Essays - Checklists for Senior Students
Students struggle with the structure of literary essays - what to include and how to show their critical thinking. These checklists guide students through what they could include in their introduction, each body paragraph, and their conclusion to develop fabulous essays in years 11, 12 and 13.
NZ teachers, I have tried to 'future proof' these based on what is currently the draft phase 5 curriculum and my own knowledge. For year 11, checklists are based on requirements for 1.3 morphed with phase 5 ish...ness. Once curriculums are finalised (bahaha!) I will change anything that's required and you will have the option to download again at no charge (but keep an eye on our newsletters because you don't want to miss that window). Note, these are EDITABLE so you can tweak yourself if you like also.
How to use:
Students can:
- Sit the checklist beside them as a step-by-step guide to 'do this, write that, now try this'.
- Use the checklist to check the essay once written.

Sharing/Copying this Resource
Feel free to purchase just one for your department - no need for a copy for each teacher. However:
- Please do NOT share with the school down the road.
- Please do NOT take it with you to a new school.
- Feel free to suggest the website to others - that'd be great!
That's pretty fair we think! Let's help each other out. :)
